Dato’ Seri Kenny Ong, the Group Executive Chairman of MTT Shipping Sdn Bhd, has been conferred with the World Chinese Excellent Entrepreneur Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Global Chinese Economic & Technology Summit (GCET). GCET is an annual international forum that provides business linkages and connectivity, a platform for high level discussions on global and regional events in relation to China’s rise as a world leading economy. The award ceremony was held on the 16th of December, opening address was given by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Hon. Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Bin Yaakob and the keynote address by the Governor of Penang HE Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.
Dato’ Seri Kenny Ong who has over 40 years of experience in the shipping and logistics industry was nominated by a high-level selection panel for this award as a recognition of his outstanding achievements as a business leader and the various contributions he has made for the country and local community.
With solid historical roots in the shipping and logistics sector, Dato’ Seri Kenny Ong and his management team has developed MTT Shipping into the leading container shipping line in Malaysia and is ranked 66th amongst Alphaliner’s top 100 containerised liner operators in the world today.
Dato’ Seri Kenny Ong has also always been down to earth and passionate about helping those in need. He has served on numerous associations to improve business and non-business relationships in the local community. This includes President of the Stevedore Employers Association, Standing Committee of Domestic Trade/Smuggling for the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Board of Trustee for Dr Sun Yat Sen Museum Foundation and Board of Trustee for Bukit Bendera Caring Society.
Organisers of the summit include the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific and co-organised by the China Development Institute, the Centre for China and Globalisation, and the China Silk Road International Foundation. The forum was attended by more than 500 participants from over 20 countries.
